This award-winning 75-unit apartment building is the product of a renovation of two underused heritage buildings in Winnipeg’s downtown core. The renovation is a stunning example of putting old buildings to new use, thereby reducing the GHG emissions and waste associated with demolition and building something new.

The Avenue also provides apartments ranging in size from 400 sq. ft to 1020 sq. ft, creating options for tenants with different needs, including families. Creating more and better housing needs to include making family-friendly options in urban neighbourhoods.

Replicability

This kind of midrise renovation can be replicated in downtowns across Canada. It’s a smart model for leveraging the assets of an existing building while adding fresh value and appeal for a new generation of tenants and/or condo owners.
